At the end of September 2018 a small group of intrepid SMEWI members (and a few extras in the form of family members) took to the waters of Poole Harbour to have a go at stand up paddleboarding (sup) under the expert instruction of Easy Riders who are based at the Harbour in Shore Road. Easy Riders also teach Kite Surfing, and make the most of their excellent location in one of the largest natural harbours in the world.

After getting kitted out with our wetsuits, paddles and boards, we received some basic instruction about how to hold the paddle and where to stand on the board. We then took to the water. We started off balancing on our knees, then attempted the difficult part of getting to a standing position. Some of us stayed dry, and made it all look very easy, whilst some of us fell in many times! We all enjoyed the experience, even if we were very tired and a bit cold by the time we'd finished our two hour session. One or two members have even gone on to purchase their own paddle boards so they can continue to enjoy this increasingly popular pastime.
